Pick just one of these five easy to do resolutions to improve your mental and physical health in 2011*:
   1.
Drink more water (coffee and sodas don't count).
   2. 5 days on/2 days off (eat healthier foods for five days, enjoy treats on the weekend).
   3. Portion control (don't overload your plates- also a budget saver).
   4. Keep moving (get up and move around for a few minutes every hour).
   5. Sleep at least 7 hours a day (turn that tv off and go to bed).

Any one of these will have both a short and long term positive impact on the health of your family as well as you.  You 'll feel better and consequently so will they.  Do more than one if you want – may be easier to add another later in the year.

Wishing you a Delicious Healthy Happy New Year!

Aisle 2: Look for Lean Ground Meat and Poultry, Ignore “Natural”Claims. Lean is the key word in this department. Read the label carefully because it’s natural to assume that ground turkey is lower in fat than hamburger, but this isn’t always the case. The key wording here is lean and white; packages labeled as such are markedly leaner than other brands.

Ground beef and hamburger are not nutritionally identical. Ground beef is usually leaner than hamburger because the latter can contain as much as 30% fat. Ground sirloin, ground round and lean ground beef will have the least saturated fat. In the meat aisle, natural means very little.

According to USDA, natural is about how the meat was processed not how the animals were raised. Instead look for poultry that is antibiotic free and red meats raised without hormones. Hormones are not allowed in the poultry or egg industry, so labels that say “hormone free” are a useless ploy to get you to buy their brand over another.

TIP: Always place meats, poultry and seafood in plastic bags to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria to other foods in your cart.

Thank you Kimberly Stewart for this Food News.  We did take out Kimberly’s reference to pork as we feel this “unclean” meat should be avoided.

CaloriesInSaladSince 66% are overweight or obese, the fact tht 70% are concerned about their weight is a good thing.*   However, most have no idea how many calories they are eating, nor the amount of calories and exercise they need.  It’s simple.  Less calories and more exercise works for most.  Fresh food has fewer calories than processed.  Eat fresh and get moving!

This is why we do what we do. We get crazy when we see such numbers. It has been reported that more than half of all kids have suffered from chronic illness.* Most of these chronic diseases can be prevented. Most chronic illnesses are related to obesity.

Stop and take a look at your family. Stop with the junk food. Stop with the processed food.

Start feeding your kids God-made food for their God-made bodies. It is that simple. The Kid Kritics Approved Seal program, our websites, our newsletters, our radio shows, our books, our CDs, our in person speaking, our seminars – everything we do is focused on making it easy to eat healthier foods that taste good. You can do it. Get started now.

Kraft has introduced some new products.  In a time when healthier foods are in demand, you would think this food manufacturer could cough up some healthier products for kids.  Don’t hold your breath.  How about the ingenious idea of mac and cheese crackers?  Wish I had thought of that.  Cool Whip Topping in can.  Just what we need – a fast and fun way to cover desserts with processed sugar and stuff.  Just spray it into your kids mouths – they’ll love you!  Nilla Cakesters – come on.  NUTrition trail mix and more one hundred calorie snack packs are also being introduced to the market.  Portion control can be helpful.  Still, what ever you put into your mouth has a positive or negative reaction.  That fact can’t be altered by the amount you eat. For example one hundred calories of a snack made with high fructose corn syrup is an absolute no, no.  One hundred calories of a dried fruit, nut and seed trail mix – preferably organic – is a good product.  I did not see this on Kraft’s new product list.  Too bad.  This company has the money to create and package healthier snacks.   Vote with your pocket book.  Don’t buy the junk stuff.  Mac and cheese crackers – really.  What’s next, Luncheable crackers?

Ellen
