<p><strong>PREHEAT</strong>: Burner, medium </p>
<p><strong>PAN</strong>: Medium to large sauce pan<br />
<strong>TOOL</strong>: Immersion Blender, a soup maker’s best friend!</p>
<p>1   28 ounce can of Crushed Organic Tomatoes with Basil or Herbs</p>
<p>1   32 ounce carton of Organic Vegetable Broth, low-sodium</p>
<p>2   cups organic rice milk or organic heavy cream</p>
<p>Combine tomatoes and broth in sauce pan over moderate heat.  When it begins to bubble, stir and add rice milk or cream.  Reduce heat to low and let it continue to simmer gently for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally. Then take your immersion blender, place it in the middle of the pan, turn it on and blend until all the tomato bits are gone.  Season as desired with sea salt.  Sprinkle parsley flakes on top. Serve!</p>

<p><strong>NOTES</strong><br />
We prefer the use of rice milk for a light and delicious soup.  Heavy creamy is very rich and should be reserved for special dinners on occasion.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When cooking kale &#8211; yes,  you will be after you read our upcoming recipes &#8211; tear the stem away from the leaves.  Then tear the large leaves up into small pieces.  Removing stems from kale takes the bitterness out of this powerful vegetable.  Kale is loaded with phytonutrients which build strong immune systems.  Kids will eat it when cooked in a soup and is pureed.  That recipe you will be posted on our website later.  </p>
<p>The quick easy way to cook kale is to saute crushed garlic and chopped onions in olive oil.  Then add the torn pieces of kale and lightly stir fry &#8211;  add sea salt.  Stir it into pasta or rice &#8211; just a little will go a long way so go easy on the first serving.  Throw in some leftover cooked beef or chicken or turkey. Grate cheese on top or even melt it into this dish.  Cheese makes everything more appealing.  Be brave and try this! </p>
<p>Remember, you have to have a positive attitude and eat it yourself to invoke a positive response from your kids!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Troy DeGroff of Earth Fare reminded us that like most grocery stores, natural food stores have stepped up their coupon and sale offerings.  Grab the sale flyer before you start to shop.  Also, look for coupons given by the store and the food manufacturers.  You may end up adjusting your grocery list to save money – yeah!  Food companies, yes, the ones with healthier products,  also have coupons on their websites. Print them out while making your shopping list.  </p>
<p>When you shop, go around the perimeter of the store for fresh food.  In the produce section, your best buys are likely to be the locally farmed fruits and vegetables. Buy in season, buy extra and freeze it for off season use. Even when organic squeezes your budget, there are three foods that are must buys for your health: hormone and antibiotic-free/free-range meats, eggs and dairy.  When meat is on sale, buy in quantity and freeze for future use.  The health of your family depends on this.</p>
<p>Buy in bulk.  Healthy rice, nuts, beans and so much more are cheaper when you fill your own bag. </p>
<p>Portion control!  Plate sizes have grown with our waistlines.  We do not need to eat so much.</p>
<p>Get back to basics and start cooking again.
