"Most kids don’t come close to getting enough exercise daily and don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables: 62% of 1,630 parents with children ages 5 to 10 say their kids eat junk food one to four days a week. Only 14% of parents say their kids eat at least five fruits and vegetables a day. These results shed light on the reasons for the childhood obesity epidemic. About a third of children in the USA are overweight, which puts them at higher risk for type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and other health problems."*

The Dirty Dozen – fruits and vegetables are known to have too many pesticides: Apples, Celery, Cherries, Grapes (imported) , Lettuce, Nectarines, Peaches, Pears, Potatoes, Spinach, Strawberries, Sweet bell peppers. Notice, they all have thin skins so they more prone to absorbing unwanted chemicals. You have to decide how important the health of your family is to you when you are buying any of these fresh foods. Organic spinach, celery, lettuce, and apples are more reasonably priced and can be found easily in the stores. Berries are so tempting. Do your best. Buy organic, or buy local, or buy from your grocery store and eat fewer less frequently. Pay a little more now or a lot more later for illnesses related to pesticides and other sprayed chemicals not meant for human consumption. Better food choices provides you with long term inexpensive health insurance!

Food companies are jumping on the appeal of sugar and salt flavor combinations. This flavor profile is a recipe for obesity… and other illnesses. Outsmart them and don’t buy such products they will sell in stores and at fast-food restaurants. Instead, stick to fresh foods and season them yourself with a little sea sale or sugar.

Food companies realize that High Fructose Corn Syrup has a negative reputation so they are asking the federal government to give them permission the change its name to “Corn Sugar.” Seems they would rather continue to use HFCS as a sweetener even though there is research relating it to diseases such as diabetes and obesity, and simply fool you with this name change. We see “Corn Sugar” as a cover up ploy. Out smart these food manufacturers by not buying any products containing High Fructose Corn Syrup, regardless what it is called.
