Al Forman, owner of Tunies Super Save Nutrition Center and grocery shopping expert, gave us 8 tips on how to just shop for healthier foods for the best prices:
1. Shop where there is price competition, where there are stores selling healthier foods near each other.
2. Independently owned stores can offer the best prices. They have more price control.
3. Always ask some one in the store for the suggested retail price. Then see if that store’s prices are higher or lower.
4. Use coupons found in stores, magazines, newspapers, on the internet. Food company websites often have them for you to print.
5. Look for store deals of the week or day.
6. BUY QUALITY FOOD. Pay now for nutrient-filled food or spend $ on empty calories/damaging chemicals and pay doctor and drug bills later. You get more for your money with fresh real food than packaged processed food.
7. Serviced oriented stores will steer you to getting the most for your money because they care.
8. Ask for a tour of the store rather than wander around aimlessly trying to find a good buy.
All stores, even large chains should be receptive to your questions and serving you. If not, find another one that will. It will pay off in time and money.
