Watermelon Man
“Jack-O Melon” (named by the Kid Kritics)
Tool: Medium-size carving knife
1 Round watermelon. Make sure it can stand on one end.
Carve out the eyes, nose and mouth. The rind is relatively soft so it is easier
than carving a pumpkin
2 red grapes
Place in eye sockets
1 piece pineapple, triangle shape
Place in nose socket.
1 orange bell pepper, or color of choice
Cut in to quarters. Clean out pulp. Chose two and place one on each side of
melon for ears. Attach with toothpick.
1 hat. Choose a fitting size.
Place on top.
Have fun with it. Take photos. Then cut and eat it when ready!
OPTIONS: Use any fruits and vegetables you like. Have fun being creative –
ie use a carrot for the nose!
GIRLS: Use a ladies hat and call her “Jackie Melon”
3 Natural Food Colors: red, yellow, orange
2 Food Groups: vegetables, fruit
